EOS Climate – High-Integrity Climate & Social Impact Programme

The EOS Climate – High-Integrity Climate & Social Impact Programme is a Programme of Activities (PoA) developed under the Gold Standard for the Global Goals (GS4GG) framework, aligned with the Paris Agreement. The Programme is coordinated and managed by EOS Climate as the Coordinating and Managing Entity (CME). The Programme addresses greenhouse gas emissions associated with the use of non-renewable biomass fuels for boiling and sterilizing water in rural and peri-urban communities across Malawi. In the baseline scenario, households rely on unsafe water sources and boil water using firewood or charcoal, resulting in adverse health impacts, time burdens on women and children, local deforestation, and significant GHG emissions. The Programme enables access to safe, reliable, and continuous drinking water through the installation of solar-powered artesian borehole systems with communal tap stands. All project activities operate with zero direct GHG emissions, eliminating the need for biomass combustion at the point of water use.
