GS13139 VPA-1 ETG Live Better Improved Cookstove Project in Kenya

This Voluntary Project Activity (VPA) aims to distribute improved cookstoves (ICS) to low-income households in Kilifi County, Kenya. The VPA utilizes climate finance to overcome affordability barriers and promote access to clean and energy-efficient cooking technologies among households that primarily rely on traditional biomass-based cooking practices. Implemented by ETG Climate Solutions SA, a climate-focused organization working on nature-based and energy transition initiatives, the VPA is expected to distribute more than 50,000 improved cookstoves across Kilifi County. In addition to stove dissemination, the project includes beneficiary sensitization and training, user support, and ongoing monitoring to encourage proper adoption and sustained use of the technology. The improved cookstoves are designed to replace traditional three-stone fires and other inefficient biomass stoves commonly used in the project area. By improving thermal efficiency and reducing fuelwood consumption, the project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, alleviate pressure on forest resources, and lower household exposure to indoor air pollutants.
