Integrated climate action, adaptation, and CO2 reduction to improve environmental management, livelihoods, and youth empowerment in Inhambane and Gaza Provinces

This project will be implemented in the Mozambican provinces of Inhambane and Gaza, reaching local communities that rely on traditional biomass fuels for cooking. Its central strategy is the promotion and deployment of improved charcoal and firewood cookstoves (ICS), aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and generate environmental, social, and economic benefits aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Implementation will be led by TDH Germany (project owner) and MAHLAHLE (local implementer), combining international standards with local knowledge for effective delivery. The project will deploy 9,000 charcoal ICS, all compliant with Gold Standard requirements and locally manufactured or assembled at a dedicated facility. These stoves will increase combustion efficiency, reduce indoor air pollution, cut emissions, and lower household energy costs. Over the first five-year crediting period, the project is expected to reduce 81,000 tons of CO₂e, based on Gold Standard TPDDTEC methodology. Designed to deliver multiple co-benefits, it contributes to SDG13 (climate action through 81,000 tCO₂e reductions), SDG15 (forest conservation), and SDG3 (better health from cleaner a
