Reducing Carbon Emissions by Scaling Heat Pump Adoption in Kyrgyz Republic
The purpose of the project is to install heat pumps in Kyrgyzstan. Heat pumps are modern devices used in heating, air conditioning and hot water applications. Unlike other heat generators (coal, gas, diesel and electric), the heat pump extracts (pumps out) low-potential energy from the environment (accumulated during the warm season from ground, groundwater, rocks etc) and increases the heat potential by transferring heat energy from a source with a lower temperature to a higher temperature via the thermodynamic steam-compression cycle. Heat pumps needs an external energy source, usually electricity, to operate. The most common design of a heat pump consists of a compressor, a thermal expansion valve, an evaporator and a condenser. The coolant circulating inside these components is called refrigerant. The project involves the installation of Heat pumps in its first phase in Bishkek and Chuy Region. These HPs replace energy-intensive heating solutions used in homes, and institutions which run on carbon-intensive and expensive fossil fuels.
