Water for the Planet Initiative

The Water for Planet Initiative recognizes that households across Rwanda are still relying on unsafe water sources for their water needs and that to make the water safe, most resort to treatment by boiling with non-renewable biomass resulting into GHG Emissions. The Project will provide safe water to communities in Rwanda by installing water treatment technologies (in-line chlorination) to existing community water supply (CWS) systems. The project will also maintain the system, expand piped water access, and provide regular water quality monitoring and awareness within the communities. The resulting safe water access and public awareness of its safety is likely to replace the need to burn non-renewable biomass in water treatment through boiling. This will result in reduced GHG emissions and positively contribute to climate change goals and sustainable development goals.
