GHG Emissions Reduction & Sequestration - Afforestation/Reforestation - Future Radici (Casoni-Cosenza-Calabria)

The Regular VPA Future Radici, Casoni represents a pivotal and strategic initiative within the broader framework of the Programme of Activities (PoA) Future Radici. Located in the municipality of Cassano allo Ionio (Cosenza), the project spans a total area of 129.59 hectars. These lands are owned by Leone Alato SpA. The project envisions the planting of approximately 122,500 trees, with the goal of transforming these agricultural lands into thriving, biodiverse forest ecosystems. The primary objective is to establish native and ecologically rich forest environments through a combination of afforestation and agroforestry practices. These practices are carefully tailored to the pedoclimatic and ecological characteristics of each site, ensuring that the interventions enhance biodiversity, support complex habitats, and maximize long-term carbon sequestration. The forest models adopted in this project are non-extractive, the harvesting of timber or biomass is explicitly excluded. This commitment extends for a minimum duration of 60 years.
