India Roots Collective: Community-Led Agroforestry & Landscape Restoration
The project supports smallholder farmers in integrating agroforestry practices into existing agricultural lands to improve livelihoods, strengthen ecosystem resilience, and promote sustainable land management. The project involves planting and maintaining a mix of native fruit and timber tree species within farming systems. Fruit trees provide regular income and food security benefits, while timber species offer long-term economic value. These interventions also improve soil health, reduce soil erosion, enhance soil moisture retention, and increase vegetation cover. The project contributes to climate change mitigation through carbon sequestration in tree biomass and enhancement of soil organic carbon, generating measurable and verifiable greenhouse gas removals under the Gold Standard Land Use and Forests (LUF) framework. By diversifying farm income and restoring degraded landscapes, the project aims to deliver long-term climate, environmental, and socio-economic benefits for participating rural communities.
