Pakistan Low Carbon Rice Programme
Net Zero Ag Limited plans a Programme of Activities that aims to reduce methane emissions associated with conventional farming (CF) techniques. The first small-scale project activities will start in Narowal and Mandi Bahauddin, Pakistan on May 2026. Rice cultivation is one of the main GHG sources within the agriculture sector and generates approximately 8.5 MtCO2e of methane per year — roughly 2% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Conventional flooding-based production practices generate significant methane emissions and consume large volumes of fresh water. The programme will introduce the technique of alternate wetting and drying (AWD) to rice farmers in Pakistan. By adaptation of the technique, controlled irrigation strategy implemented will significantly reduce methane emissions, water use, and pumping costs.
