GS12187 Biomass Briquettes at Kensalt
The purpose of this Real VPA is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in industry in Kenya by reducing the use of energy from heavy fuel oil in the baseline by substituting it with renewable biomass briquettes, made from bagasse which is a waste stream from the sugar industry. Sugar is an annual crop and therefore renewable . The fuel oil in the baseline is deemed “non-renewable”. The main greenhouse gas being reduced by the project is carbon dioxide. More specifically, Tamuwa Limited (the Project Implementer) sells briquettes to Kensalt in Malindi that makes edible salt from sea water.
