Landfill gas recovery, energy generation and biogas distribution from CTR Santa Rosa

1. Project Design and Scenarios The project aims to collect and treat landfill gas (Landfill Gas – LFG) in various scenarios to reduce methane emissions. The planned scenarios include: •Controlled flaring of collected gas; •Supplying treated gas to industrial, commercial, or residential consumers; •Using gas as fuel for electricity generation. These scenarios will be applied according to the specific characteristics and needs of each landfill included in the program. At the Santa Rosa Waste Treatment Center (CTR) in Seropédica (Rio de Janeiro – Brazil), the current scenario involves the capture of landfill gas (LFG) for combustion and distribution to external consumers. In the future, infrastructure is planned for electricity generation from the collected gas. 2. Technologies and Measures The project uses modern technologies for LFG capture, treatment, and utilization, such as: •Vertical and horizontal wells for gas collection; •High-efficiency flaring systems; •Infrastructure for gas treatment, including contaminant removal; •Infrastructure for transporting biogas by trucks for external thermal applications.
