Solar Electric Cooking Systems for Schools and Other Institutions in Tanzania

The project provides solar electric cooking systems (SECSs) through subsidized and affordable long-term financing to schools and other institutions (e.g. hospitals) to completely replace firewood and charcoal for cooking with electricity from renewable energy sources. The solar systems are designed to produce more electricity than is consumed for cooking over the year and are typically sized to meet the institution’s total annual electricity demand included the additional demand from electric cooking. The SECSs include among others large efficient electric pots (e.g. up to 400 l) with heat insulation and automatic temperature control.
